The saddest commentary to come out of this entire scandal is that it was not the courts in the state of Florida nor the law enforcement agencies that were the mechanisms of justice but it was the federal law enforcement agencies and federal courts that were the mechanisms of justice. There is a strong parallel here and with the murder of Frankie Valdez in Florida state prison. There was no conviction in state courts but in the federal courts in a civil trial there was a hands down conviction of the state as well as huge fine. It was a like story in the murder of Anderson who died in a Sheriff’s book camp. The state paid a parallel civil amount to preclude a civil trial in federal courts that would expose their failure to get a conviction before there was even a criminal trial.
