Minors accused of “sexting” in Florida will not be charged as a sex offender

Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Tuesday legislation it makes a first violation a non-criminal offense, a second offense a misdemeanor, and a third offense a felony.

Current law could lead to minors being convicted on child pornography charges and a requirement that they register as a sex offender.that lowers the penalty for minors accused of “sexting,” which is sending sexually explicit photos or videos of themselves.
