“FBI director: Have to check whether targeted killing rule is outside US only” This is a scary concept that is begining to take legs and can quickly become a reality. My sense is that if the president can make such a statement, then why can a state governor not make this same claim within the boundaries of the state. After all, they have the authority under the constution and approved by the Supreme Court to execute a citizen as it stands now.
In reality, we are no longer talking about concept but technicalities: “….”First, the U.S. government has determined, after a thorough and careful review, that the individual poses an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States; second, capture is not feasible; and third, the operation would be conducted in a manner consistent with applicable law of war principles,” Holder said…..”
It seems as if we had laws on the books about such activities and they would be in concert with the congress and under an established framework that there the laws of the land.
Americans serving over seas in foreign armies are a long established tradition. Cases in point are the Foriegn Legion, Lincoln Brigade in Spain and the RAF in England prior to World War II.
We seemed to have been strong enough to survive those incidents. We were able to survive such groups as the Black Panthers and Weatherme in the US as well without having to undertake assasinations. We also survived the KKK and Neo-Nazi movements. The validity of any of these causes depends on which side you were on.
