Universities vs. Community Colleges

This comes from another blog and certainly is a consideration to take into account. However, to me, the single most important discriminator is that as a rule Community Colleges are required to take everyone who qualifies and Universities get to pick from all those eligible.
My own experience from attending both is that the best and cheapest starting point is to pick a Community College. Whereas the programs may be more technical in nature the basic education courses are much better and they serve as a better introduction to potential areas of interest.
Again, my own experience is that instructors were every bit as competent and much more available than at the university level.
