New population pool to fill the jails and prisons of the nation

I think that history will record that Osama Ben Laden has won the war on terrorism. Whereas the drama and trauma of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York may have had a horrendous impact on the national psyche, it was not a bleep on the economic history much less the national security of the country. We survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the Japanese survived the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The actual attack on the Twin Towers was an intelligence failure. We had all the indicators and no one put it together. This was not at all unlike the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Yes, we did build a super military and went to war and disassembled that military after the war. Even though the Cold War followed it was still a military under control and it was the voice of General and later President Eisenhower that cautioned us against the growth of the Military Industrial Complex as did General and later President George Washington cautioned us against foreign entanglements.

What is happening here is that mechanisms of economic and social controls are being built into the system of government that with a flick of the switch can be turned against the individual or any group in the name of national security or counter terrorism. (I am haunted by two motto’s that came out of the 1964 politics. ‘Moderation in the defense of freedom is no virtue’ and Extremism In The Defense Of Liberty Is No Vice The justification only need be in the definition of the word terrorism or terrorists. The power lays within the person who can define terrorist.

Think in terms of the IRS hiring thousands of agents to go through tax returns for the medical enforcement of ObamaCare. Think in terms of Air Force Drones practicing surveillance on US cars in the highways of the Southwest. Think in terms of this new executive order creating a mechanism for instant control over all the communications networks of the US.

Now think in terms of someone or a group in or at the top abusing the power they have at their finger tips. Think in terms of periodic drills to insure the operation of such networks and then one of those drills turns into a power grab.

Now, think in terms of all the prisons being built by the federal government to hold illegal aliens being arbitrarily emptied by mass deportations. That has freed up thousands of spaces for those individuals and groups that will fall into whatever category of terrorist whoever has the authority to define. You know enemies of the state.

There is another slogan that comes to mind while writing this that needs to be considered. It comes to us from the 1800s and is every bit as applicable today as it was then. “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”[ To give this more immediate meaning, think in terms of what rape is coupled with the euphemism of ‘every man’s home is his castle.’

Now go back to the days of reconstruction and look at the brutal terror and hangings of the Jackson County war which was only on a small and intense scale of what was happening throughout the south. The most concise and authoritive description of this war comes from Wikipedia: ‘… Jackson County war which was only on a small and intense scale of what was happening throughout the south. ‘…From 1869-71, Jackson County was the center of a low-level guerrilla war known as the Jackson County War. Members of the Ku Klux Klan consisting of Confederate Army veterans assassinated over 150 Republican Party officials and prominent African-Americans as part of a successful campaign to retain white Democratic power…’

Now substitute Negro for enemy of the state or terrorist as well as reconstruction for the war on terrorims and tell me what you get?

The tax man cometh to police you on health care

Gov. Paul LePage used his weekly radio address to blast President Obama’s health care law and described the Internal Revenue Service as the “new Gestapo.”
