I have been looking at politics for most of the 70 years I have been on this planet. At no time, have I ever seen so much corruption and politics for the sake of power than has manifested itself in the last 4 or 5 years. Then the below photo came up on my Facebook page and it just expressed every sense or feeling that has grown inside me over these last few years.
This is not a Democratic or Republican thing but is a reality of what American politics has sunk to. We have major problems with debt, foreign policy, budget deficits, unemployment, the post office, Medicare, welfare and the beat goes on. There has not been a budget passed in some four years. Yet, everyone is out campaigning. There is a budget landmine due in January and no one has even given it a second thought.
How can this be. Simple and oh so clear when I read Inside story of Obama’s struggle to keep Congress from controlling outcome of debt ceiling crisis by Bob Woodward. The best summary of our bankrupt public policy and focuse on self-serving power comes from his quote in the article; ‘When Obama learned that the deal negotiated among the congressional leaders would require a two-step increase in the debt limit, he told Rob Nabors, the White House director of legislative affairs, “The one thing I said I actually needed, they didn’t get,” referring to Reid and Pelosi. “I needed this to go past the election, and they didn’t get it for me. This can’t work.” …’ It is not about the public welfare and national interest, it is about power.
All of this was followed in quick order by:Soft on Wall Street;Dems weak on corporate crime. Why would this be so and the answer is in that old expression follow the money. Wall Street is the cash cow of politics.
Have a sense of where the priorities are: No Record of Intel Briefings for Obama Week Before Embassy Attacks. You can argue that the president is supposed to be kept informed but these briefings are his vehicle to be kept informed. The consequence; ‘..According to the White House calendar, there is no public record of President Barack Obama attending his daily intelligence briefing–known as the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB)–in the week leading up to the attacks on the U.S. embassy in Cairo and the murder of U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American members of his staff:…’ However, his re-election campaign did not miss a beat.
And the beat goes on with Obama Misses Over Half His Intelligence Briefings. ‘…During his first 1,225 days in office, Obama attended his PDB just 536 times — or 43.8 percent of the time. During 2011 and the first half of 2012, his attendance became even less frequent — falling to just over 38 percent….’ but it gets better ‘….In July, a GAI analysis of President Obama’s calendar found that the president has spent just 412 hours in economic meetings of any kind throughout his presidency versus the over 600 hours he’s spent golfing….’
I do not have the time much less the interest in tracking the politics and corruption that all to often creates the baseline conditions by which women and children find themselves in the jails and prisons of the nation. It is the history or our times and don’t feel there is much I can do about it. So, this is my last entry on the problem of politics and corruption. From now on, I will refocus on education, re-entry and the the jails and prisons in themselves.
