Scant Oversight of Drug Maker in Fatal Meningitis Outbreak

Less than a week ago, I made reference to lack of government supervision on the food chain and it appears that this lack of supervision also extends to the pharmaceutical manufacturers as well.

The recent meningitis outbreak is being blamed on poor supervision and there is a fairly lengthy but comprehensive on the meningitis outbreak that has killed over 17 people to date and triggered an extensive recall.

The focus of the pharmaceutical industry on high dollar medications such as pain killers and assorted sex drugs that have low production costs has resulted gaping shortages of critical drugs that require high production costs and lower profits.

You ask how can they get away with it? You only have to look at the campaign contributions to get your answer. Industry does not invest money where there is not a return.
