Over 20 years ago I came to Gainesville and one of the things that impressed me the most about Mr. Cliff Stearns was that he was running for congress on a one time ticket for one run and then retiring from national politics. Then two years later, he said that by popular demand he would run again.
Well, 20 years later he lost re-election and immediately signed on to a major lobbying firm. ‘….Stearns also was the top Republican on the subcommittee dealing with telecommunications and the Internet, and he served on another subcommittee regulating manufacturing and trade….’
And the beat goes on. I guess the question that I would like to ask but don’t want the answer to is: How much legislation was turned this way or that way in an attempt to land this job?
