The Prison Problem

prisonThis is one of the best articulations of the prison problem that I have yet to read and surprise of surprises is that it comes out of Harvard Magazine. Without a doubt there are many out there that know of this or that part of the problem but to have a sense of the scope is another matter.
I often see the number of two or two point two million men, women and children in the jails and prisons of the nation and it boggles my imagination to even visualize that many people much less to think in terms of that many behind razor wire and the staff it takes to keep them there.
woman in prisonThe first thought that often comes to my mind is the movie Clock Work Orange. However, instead of psychopaths terrorizing the citizens who are the backbone of the nation it is big business and politicians.
